William Cunningham

Burgettstown; Hanover Twp.

William Cunningham of Hanover Twp., Burgettstown passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday morning June 8, 2023 three weeks after his 100th birthday. 

He was born to Elmer and Irma Wilson Cunningham in Langeloth, PA one of 13 children.

He lost his greatest love Marie DeCook Cunningham on May 22, 2019. They were married on September 11,  1942.

Bill was a proud WWII Veteran, Army Air Force, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He retired after 35 years from Weirton Steel where he was a crane operator.

He is survived by his daughter and caretaker Chris Thomas (Mike); granddaughters Leigh Enos (Damon), Helene Thomas; grandsons Mike Thomas (Kelly), Dave Thomas (Chelsea), and Mark Thomas. Pap also loved spending time with his great grandchildren who adored him Hannah Steel (Hunter), Hallie Enos, Haidyn Enos, Annie Enos, Emanuel Enos, Gage Thomas, Jacob Shoup, Dahlia Shoup and Kinsley Thomas; and especially his 1st great great granddaughter Rylie. He is also survived by sons William Cunningham, Jr. and Robert Cunningham.

He will be missed also by his neighbors and his friends that looked out for his smile and friendly wave.

There will be a private ceremony at a later date. He will be laid to rest with his wife in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
