William Robert Bell, 80, of Burgettstown; Jefferson Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday August 30, 2024 in his home with his loving wife by his side.
Bill Bell left this Earth in the same manner that he lived it-- with stubborn strength. He faced amyloidosis straight on and fought it with a vengeance. Diagnosed in 2019 he soon became his own advocate, studying the procedures, medicines and treatment. He questioned the doctors, researched the research and investigated any new medical option. Although fully aware of the final outcome, he did not fear death. But what he feared was no longer being productive for his family, home or farm- all of which he loved dearly. He will be missed but his spirit will continue on in all those he touched.
He was born on July 26, 1944 in Sheridan, PA a son of the late William Junior and Mary Ann Bokulich Bell. A 1962 graduate of the Fort Cherry High School, he served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 in Vietnam and was honorably discharged a recipient of the National Defense Service and Vietnam Service Medals.
Mr. Bell was a proud truck driver for Millservice in Midway and Powers Wrecking in Avella. He also took great pride in farming his land in Jefferson Township.
His wife, Janice Mollie Krzeczowski Bell, who he married on September 26, 1970 survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are his three children William Nathaniel Bell of Midway, Christine Denise Bell of Burgettstown and Jennifer Herbert and husband George of Avon, OH; four grandchildren Mason Boni, Grace, Charlotte and Steven Bruce Herbert; a sister Linda Chaney, wife of the late Jack, of Midway; and a nephew Craig Chaney and wife Amber of Mars, PA.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 3 in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 4, 2024 with his grandson Mason Boni officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Center Cemetery, Midway.
His family would like to thank Dr. Devin Hinkey, Marilyn Bell, his nurse practitioner, Brad who managed his cardiac devices and all who helped care for him while at the VA and the UPMC Presby. The family is also grateful to the Jefferson Township VFD and the Fort Cherry Ambulance crews.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Bell’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460 or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
