Sandra Irene Allison, 76, passed away during the early morning hours on April 26, 2025 at North Strabane Skilled Nursing Facility. Sandy had been residing in this skilled nursing home after having been hospitalized due to a stroke in December 2024.
She was born on October 20, 1948 a daughter of the late Frank Allison, Sr. and Helen Lesko Allison.
Sandy resided with CCI for decades, first at Robinson Developmental Center and then, since 2001, at the home in Coraopolis. She was incredibly friendly, compassionate, and had many friends. Everyone that was fortunate enough to have known Sandy loved the time they spent with her and felt inspired by her. She very effectively used a language board and a touch screen computer to communicate her thoughts and feelings to others, as well as express her irrepressible sense of humor. Sandy had a tremendous spirit of positivity and was loved by so many. Using her touchscreen computer and language board wasn’t the only way that Sandy communicated. She was an incredibly talented artist who produced a prolific amount of beautifully detailed paintings and drawings that not only represented an image but conveyed an emotion as well.
Incredibly, Sandy created these accomplished art works using her feet to draw and paint. Her images have adorned Citizen Care Inc Christmas cards in the past, she had an exhibit of her work displayed at the Sewickley Library, and she has sold a number of her artworks. She also had a strong interest in the political system and regularly participated in this system by exercising her right to vote. A talented artist, Sandy did paintings that were displayed around the Pittsburgh area and at the Chartiers Country Club, being used for the golf club's charities that KDKA sponsored and were broadcasted on TV for many years. Sandy also enjoyed word search puzzles, going to church and traveling to Hawaii to visit her brother.
Sandy is survived by her two brothers Frank Allison, Jr. of Slippery Rock and Michael Allison of Hawaii; nephews Jeremy and Nate Allison of Texas; as well as many friends and caregivers. Deceased in addition to her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles is her twin sister who died at birth.
Visitation for Sandy will be held from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday May 2, 2025 in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021 where a Catholic Blessing service officiated by Fr. John Ferguson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday May 3, 2025. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Burgettstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Citizen Care, c/o Johanna Guarino, 250 Clever Road, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.
