Raymond Leroy Anderson

June 12, 1953 — May 4, 2023

Eldersville

Raymond Leroy Anderson, 69, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2023. He was born on June 12, 1953 to Jim and Ada Anderson. He grew up in Eldersville, PA and remained there his whole life.

Ray passed away at his home, affectionately named “Sugar Mountain,” in Eldersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta, who he met at Burgettstown Area High School and married on August 11, 1973. Though they were separated for a season, they are now “together forever.”

In his life, Ray was a quiet loving soul, dedicated to those he loved, with a giving heart to those charities he deemed worthy of his attention. As a youth he was a member of the Boy Scouts, receiving many patches, badges and awards. He was a member of Jefferson Township Fire Department and a Constable there also.

Upon graduating high school Ray went to work for Weirton Steel where he became a “rigger,” an accomplishment he was extremely proud of. He has maintained relationships with his fellow riggers well beyond his years of service. They, and many of his many friends from Eldersville, were instrumental in the construction of “Sugar Mountain.”

Ray was an animal lover, caring for his pets as part of his family. He always loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping at Lake Erie. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved tailgating before the games at Heinz Field and Acrisure Stadium.

Surviving Ray are his older brother, Jim (Melanie) of Florence, SC and his sister Denise (Paul) Simeraro of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who love him and remember his kindness towards them and extended family members around the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ada Mull Anderson; his sister Jane (Herb); and his brother Charles.

Per Ray’s request there will be no visitation. The family will have no “formal memorial service.” Please celebrate Ray’s life, and fond memories of your time spent with him, in your own unique way. If you would like to honor his memory in a tangible way, his favorite local charity is the Washington Area Humane Society.
