James (Jim/Jimmy/Papap) Alan McFarland passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 30, 2026, in the home where he was born on December 1,1944, to Archie and Sophie Krocsko McFarland (both deceased), in Raccoon, Pennsylvania.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown where he was voted Best Dressed, an accolade that would follow him throughout his life. After graduation he joined the US Army where he served with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. While there he learned to golf, developed a love of reading and frequented the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Sundays where he would have coffee and read the newspaper. After his honorable discharge from the Army as a Private First Class (twice!), Jim became employed at the Climax Molybdenum Company where he worked until his retirement in 2011. He started as an hourly worker in the union and though he eventually took a salary job he kept positive feelings for the necessity of unions.

He was a longtime member of the Richard Vaux Masonic Lodge No. 454, Burgettstown where he was a Past Master and also of the Slovan Polish National Alliance. He also joked that he would join the Procrastinators Club one day. He was proud to have been invited to the Kraków Open Euchre tournament.

Jim loved the outdoors, would take walks every day, and also enjoyed fishing and camping. He was witty, intelligent, stubborn and had a strong sense of right and wrong and felt everyone deserved a fair chance. He passed those traits along to his children: Kelly Streit (spouse Barry) and Carl Mack McFarland (partner Ariana Jacob). In addition, he is survived by his longtime partner Judy Kraeer, his grandchildren Zach and Piper Streit, sister Carole Scruppi, and nephew Ron Bondo. He is preceded in death by his sister Patti McFarland and niece Debbie Hoberek.
