George A. Froats, Jr., 80, of Bulger, passed away after a brief illness on Friday afternoon October 11, 2024 in UPMC Washington Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 24, 1944 a son of the late George A. Froats, Sr. and Wilma Josephine Boni Froats Nickolay.
A graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown, he was drafted into the United States Army serving with the military police in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict.
George retired from Langeloth Metallurgical Company in 2008 after 44 years where he was a mechanic.
An avid outdoorsman and animal lover, he found great joy by working with his Black Angus Cattle on his farm, hunting and fishing at his camp in Tidioute, tractors, and a good cup of coffee and conversations.
His wife, Carol Griffith Froats who he married on March 21, 1964 survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his four children Amy Lynn Froats of Bulger, Todd D. Froats and wife Lorrie-Ann of New Mexico, George A. Froats, III and wife Melissa of Burgettstown and Deana Johnston and husband Hoss of Imperial; seven grandchildren Michael Bartoletti, Jr., Megan Bartoletti, Domenick Bartoletti, Abby Robertson and husband James, Amanda Kurtz and husband Tony, George C. Froats and Harley Paige Froats; great grandchildren James, Ember Rose, Bentley, Oakley and Veronica; his brother Richard L. Froats, Sr. and wife Bernadette of Burgettstown; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents are his sister Willa Hampson and brothers John W. Froats and Henry T. Froats, Sr.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 on Tuesday October 15, 2024 in Slater Funeral & Cremation Services of Burgettstown, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 16, 2024 with the Rev. Angela C. Kress officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors in the Grandview Cemetery, Florence.
