Benny Raymond "Tanky" Fernandez, 96, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning June 28, 2024 in the emergency room of the Weirton Medical Center.

He was born on May 1, 1928 in Langeloth a son of the late Belarmino "Jim" and Ermina Fernandez. A proud lifelong resident of Langeloth, he resided at The Wyngate in Weirton, W.V. for the past two years. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1952 and retired from Weirton Steel where he worked in the blast furnace.He is survived by his two children Sharon Stracci and husband Pete and Benny Raymond Fernandez, Jr. and wife Deborah; two grandsons Cory Fernandez and wife Trina and Cole Fernandez; a great granddaughter Gianna Fernandez; and two sisters Kathryn Kyluck (the late Bill)  of Langeloth and Lena Evko (the late John) of Virginia.

Deceased in addition to his parents are his beloved wife of 66 years Dolores "Honey" LaPacz Fernandez who passed away on July 6, 2017; and two sisters Mary Lombardo and husband Richard, Sr. and Anna Gonzalez and husband Manuel.

To honor Mr. Fernandez's wishes, there will be no public visitation. He will be laid to rest with military honors at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 9, 2024 in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at the National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Slater Funeral & Cremation Services of Burgettstown.
